100% linen
Linen is a versatile and durable fabric with a rich history and a wide range of application. Made from the fibres of the flax plant, this fabric has many valuable properties. We value it for its natural look, durability and comfort, making it the ideal fabric for many of our cushions, plaids, table linens, seats, ....
Production process
The manufacturing process of linen starts with the harvesting of flax plants. The plant's long fibres are spun into yarn, which is then woven into fabric. The fabric is then washed in a drum with stones, which makes the linen smooth and soft. Thanks to this first wash, the fabric is so-called ‘pre-shrunk’. This ensures minimal shrinkage during cleaning.
Did you know: ‘Zero litres of water are needed to produce one kilogram of flax, compared to 7,100 litres of water needed to produce one kilogram of cotton.’
Care instructions
All our linen are labelled with specific washing instructions. In general, linen can be washed in the laundry machine on a light programme with a detergent without chemicals to protect linen's natural fibres. Preferably use cold water to avoid shrinkage. In addition, it is best to avoid fabric softener, this liquid can affect the natural structure of linen, affecting not only the quality of the material, but also the fabric's properties.
If you choose to put linen in the dryer, choose a low temperature and remove the linen from the dryer as soon as it is dry to avoid wrinkles. Because when linen products are dried in a hot dryer, your product can shrink 10 to 15 per cent. Or choose to let it dry naturally on a rack, then your linen product won't shrink or only 4 to 5%.
Properties
- Natural look: Linen has a natural look with a subtle texture and a slight sheen. It adds a sense of calm and comfort to any room.
- Durable: Linen is a strong fibre that can withstand wear and tear and long-term use. Linen plaids, cushion covers or tablecloths generally last longer than other materials.
- Temperature regulating: Linen has the ability to insulate in cold weather and stay cool in warm weather. As a result, linen can help keep the temperature in a room comfortable regardless of the season.
- Environmentally friendly: Linen is produced from the flax plant, which requires little water and pesticides compared to other crops such as cotton. This makes linen an eco-friendly choice for your interiors. This does make the process more labour-intensive, which is also the main reason why linen is more expensive than cotton or other textiles.
- Dining proof: it absorbs spills, prevents water rings from forming and can also be machine washed. Which makes the material resistant to stains caused by food, drinks and other everyday substances, making it a practical and low-maintenance choice for various rooms.
- Allergy-friendly: Linen is naturally hypoallergenic and can be a good choice for people with allergies or sensitive skin.
