Craftsmanship

True craftsmanship is not defined by perfection. You recognise it in a brushstroke that runs just slightly differently, in the grain of the wood, in the gentle irregularity of a hand-woven fabric. It is precisely these small differences that give an object its character and make it irreplaceable.

Every Pomax collection begins in Antwerp, where our designers translate ideas and inspirations into timeless designs. Then, skilled craftspeople take over the story. People who carry generations of knowledge with them and bring every object to life with care, patience and pride.

From cushions hand-woven by craftswomen in India, who transform banana fibres – normally a by-product of nature – into a sustainable textile. To tableware hand-painted in such a way that no two plates are ever exactly the same. Or furniture made from reclaimed wood, in which the traces of a previous life are deliberately left visible. Because we believe that materials with a past also have more soul.

Behind every object there is a maker. A craft. A story. That is why we embrace the warm imperfections that arise when something is made by hand. They turn every design into a unique piece, designed not only to be beautiful, but to be part of the life that unfolds around it for years to come.

Hand-painted, and you can feel it.

In every brushstroke of Cycle, the rhythm of nature is expressed: slow, calm, and full of nuances. Inspired by the journey of the peony, from seed to bloom, Cycle captures the subtle moment just before flowering: a quiet ode to the slowness of growth.

Cycle, designed by Sophie Casier for Pomax, is an ode to craftsmanship and attention. No two pieces are the same: subtle variations in line, shade, and texture reveal the maker’s hand and give each item its own warm, authentic character.

Even before the first sketch takes shape, a collection begins with a material. Not because it looks beautiful, but because it tells a story. The warm tactility of ceramics, the lively grains of wood, the transparency of glass, or the softness of linen each give an object its own character and determine how it feels, is used, and evolves over time.

At Pomax, we don’t design separately from the material, but together with the material. We explore how it can be shaped, what techniques it requires, and how its natural properties can enhance the design. This way, objects are created in which form and material naturally complement each other.

We consciously choose materials that age beautifully and gain more character over the years. Small color differences, subtle textures, and natural variations are not flaws but a reflection of their origin. They make each object unique and ensure it is not only beautiful today but also tomorrow and for many years to come.
